Privacy policy
Starsquall ("we") runs starsquall.com — a live view of space weather, storm alert emails, and the Terra forecast beta. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: the only personal data we hold is an email address you gave us twice, we set no cookies and run no trackers, and one click removes you.
What we collect
- If you sign up: your email address, the interests you tick (storm alerts, Terra beta), the optional industry and US state you select, and timestamps for when you consented and when you confirmed.
- If you just visit: nothing tied to you. We set no cookies, use no analytics or advertising scripts, and do not build profiles. We do not store visitor IP addresses; IPs are used transiently for rate limiting and abuse prevention and expire automatically within minutes.
How we use it
- To send the confirmation email (double opt-in) and, once confirmed, the emails you asked for: storm alerts, Terra beta access and forecasts, and occasional service notices.
- To scope Terra to your region, if you told us your state.
- We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Ever.
Email practices
Every email identifies us as the sender and carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works immediately, without a login or a reason. Unsubscribing stops all email; we keep the minimum record needed to honor your opt-out.
Service providers
Two processors handle data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site, stores the subscriber list, and provides the Turnstile bot check on our forms (Turnstile processes technical signals, including IP address, transiently to tell humans from bots).
- Resend — delivers our email.
Data is stored in the United States.
Retention
We keep your signup record while your subscription is active. If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing immediately and retain only a suppression record; email hello@starsquall.com to have your record deleted entirely.
Your rights
Email hello@starsquall.com to access, correct, export, or delete your data — we respond to every request, wherever you live. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the rights provided by the GDPR, including the right to withdraw consent at any time and to complain to your supervisory authority. If you are a California resident: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we will never treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. The subscriber list is minimal by design, access to it is restricted, and our backups are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we hold as little as possible so there is as little as possible to lose.
Children
The site and our emails are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new effective date. Material changes to how we use your email will be announced by email before they apply.
